Early Years Fire Brigade Visit
Nursery Friends joined with Reception Friends to welcome the fire brigade today. Blue Watch came into the classroom but just as the fire fighters were about to tell us about their job, a call came through on their radio that there was an emergency. They had to leave straight away in their fire engine with the blue lights flashing and siren wailing.
Fortunately it was quickly dealt with and the fire fighters returned to tell us all about their job. They sometimes rescue cats from inside cars, sheds or up trees. They go to put out house fires and they cut up cars which have been in accidents.
Miss Seymour graciously modelled the firefighter uniform. First she stepped into a pair of very strong boots and trousers. She then put on a heavy jacket with fire gloves, a radio and a whistle. Finally she donned a helmet with a visor and put the breathing apparatus on her back. The firefighters explained that this apparatus is used when they go into fires to avoid breathing in smoke.
The firefighters showed us a smoke alarm and tested it. It was very loud! They told us there is a fire dog for Hertfordshire who is called Loki and is very good at smelling what might have caused a fire.
Finally Nursery Friends went outside for a tour of the fire engine and a quick sit in the back seat.
Big thanks to Blue Watch for all you do to keep us safe!
