Tuesday 18 March 2025 School Hockey team Champions of St Albans! Skyswood entered three teams for the Annual St Albans Schools' hockey tournament and all three teams should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Our 'A' team won all seven of their group matches, conceding only one goal in the process. The winner in their final group match, securing the overall title, was an astute flick from Harry, latching on to a powerful shot from outside of the scoring zone.

Tuesday 18 March 2025 Girls Football Team Crowned Champions! Our girls football team clinched the league with victory over their closest rivals yesterday following an outstanding match with plenty of late drama. Despite having the greater share of possession during a tense first half with Aboyne Lodge, our visitors took the lead with a powerful shot from inside the area. Skyswood started the game one point above Aboyne Lodge, knowing that a draw would secure the title. The Aboyne defence continued to frustrate Skyswood with their tenacious defending, but with five or six minutes to go Philippa, our team captain, scored a wonderful goal direct from a free kick. Catherine, who enjoyed another outstanding game, then secured the victory with a late winner that came about through pure determination and a clinical finish. The whole team were superb throughout. Shriya enjoyed another confident game as our goalkeeper, showing excellent distribution from her kicking. Isobel showed great versatility, playing in several positions throughout the course of t

Monday 10 March 2025 Skyswood Shine at Dance Festival! Our Year 6 class performed superbly in last week's Oaklands ECO Dance Festival. We were one of six schools who came together for the 'Little Environmentalists' showpiece. The class created a superb dance, using the music of Katy Perry, to the theme of a recycling machine. Having worked closely with Cassi Muskett (BeaTz Dance Academy) the children showed great synchronisation and creativity within their piece. Well done to all of the class, and a big thank you to Cassi (who's choreography was amazing). The class performed a matinee as well as an evening performance on Thursday 6th March. They also performed their routine to the whole school on Friday 7th March.

Monday 10 March 2025 Netball Rally Report Our netball team performed superbly on Saturday in the Annual St Albans Schools Netball Rally. Unlike previous years, the rally is no longer divided into small schools and large schools, but is organised through a seeded system. Skyswood had an incredibly successful start to their season and came top of their small schools' league in the autumn term, gaining them promotion to League 1, a much stronger league comprising mainly schools with two or three forms of entry. This meant that they were placed in a tournament alongside the premiership and League 1 schools, so it was the toughest competition from the outset.

Friday 7 March 2025 Year 6 Persuasive writing - Pet Peeves Using the book 'Talking History', we have been reading persuasive speeches made by a variety of people, including Abraham Lincoln and Greta Thunberg. We analysed what makes a persuasive speech successful and discovered a large range of devices e.g. modal verbs, hyperbole, statistics, rhetorical questions and repetition. We chose a pet peeve that we would like to banish to Room 101 and wrote a speech persuading listeners of a podcast to choose it. Here are excerpts from our speeches.

Thursday 6 March 2025 World Book Day All of our children have enjoyed a fantastic World Book Day today, with a whole-school focus on the wonderful 'Hermelin' book; an engaging story of a mouse turned detective who sniffs out a number of clues and has to show two of our key values, curiosity and resilience, to ensure a happy ending as a result of his new-found friendship and career.

Tuesday 4 March 2025 Football Team Secure League Title Our school football team secured the league title yesterday with a fabulous 7-1 victory against Camp Primary School. Despite Skyswood starting the game strongly and having the lion's share of possession, Camp took the lead with an excellent goal halfway through the first half. The Camp goalkeeper performed heroics but was eventually beaten after a stunning strike from Calum just before half-time.

Sunday 22 December 2024 Writing - Planetarium Year 6 have been writing non-chronological reports based on the book Planetarium, written by Raman Prinja and illustrated by Chris Wormell. We used technical words to improve accuracy, figurative language and questions to engage the reader, and subordinating conjunctions (e.g. although, since) to join facts together in sentences. We built complex sentences using commas to separate clauses. Here are excerpts (selected and typed by the children) from our final report.
