Friday 27 March 2026 Year 6 persuasive writing Year 6 have been learning how to write speeches which persuade others to banish their pet hate to Room 101. We started by looked at the language, vocabulary and structure used in famous speeches, such as Lincoln's Gettysburg address and Churchill's Battle Of Britain speech. Using techniques from these and modern podcasts and speeches, we wrote our own speeches, aimed at adults and our peers. We focussed on the use of conjunctions, modal verbs and statistics and have included rhetorical questions, repetition, emotive language and the power of three to persuade listeners of our arguments. Thursday 19 March 2026 Year 6 go to Crucial Crew Year 6 participated in Crucial Crew at St. Albans Fire Station on Thursday. The workshop, run by the St Albans Community Safety Partnership, covered a range of safety aspects in and out of the home.

Friday 13 March 2026 Stars of the Week- Week ending Friday 13th March Nursery- all of the Nursery class are absolute stars after presenting their beautiful Mother's Day Tea Party.

Wednesday 11 March 2026 Year 2 Become Food Critics! Yesterday, the Year 2 children were assigned an exciting job... the job of a food critic! The classroom was transformed into a chinese restaurant, with Miss Gray and Mrs Wildman as the waitresses. The children were tasked with writing expanded noun phrases for the chinese food they 'tried', inspired by our current English unit and book, Dim Sum Palace.

Wednesday 11 March 2026 World Book Day 2026 Last Thursday, Skyswood had a lovely day celebrating World Book Day. We started the day off with a 'teacher reading carousel', where each teacher spent five minutes with each class reading them a story. This was followed by a World Book Day assembly led by Mrs Lewis.

Tuesday 17 February 2026 Reception's Chinese New Year! We have had a fantastic week in Reception celebrating Chinese New Year! The children loved learning about all the different customs and traditions.

Sunday 1 February 2026 Football Team are County Champions! Our school football team were crowned as Herts Small Schools County Champions on Saturday after winning the Herts County tournament at Parmiters. They won all three group matches and went through to their final, where the match ended in a draw and went all the way to penalties. Mr Oswin described Baxter's goal in the final as "an absolute screamer of a free kick that went straight into the top corner.

Friday 23 January 2026 Year 6 writing: figurative language Using 'Wisp' as a stimulus, Year 6 have been improving their use of figurative language by focussing on alliteration, similes, metaphors, personification and the rule of three. We used complex sentences and varied the length of our sentences for emphasis.
