Florence Nightingale Visits Year 2!
Yesterday, History Off The Page came to visit the Year 2s and we spent the whole day immersed in the life of Florence Nightingale. Our day started when the children arrived dressed as little Victorian boys and girls. Looking the part, we headed into the hall where Florence Nightingale was waiting for us!

Florence Nightingale had set up six stations of activities for the children to do to make sure the nurses were ready to head to Crimea with everything they needed. From candle stick holders to medicine pill boxes, the children had a great time getting creative making all the bits and bobs.

Alongside Florence Nightingale, we had some amazing parent helpers who helped the children at each station - BIG thanks to you!

The children also learnt how to properly bow and curtsy, as demonstrated beautifully by Alicia and Ariana below.

Once everything was made, Florence Nightingale explained to the children about her journey to Scutari and after a quick snack and break, we were met with some lost suitcases from her travels. Using our investigating skills, the children had to work out which suitcase belonged to who.

The children were successful in their investigating and returned the suitcases to the correct people. We even found Noah's suitcase, which he must have lost on his way to Scutari back in 1854!
After lunch, we headed back into the hall and it had been transformed into the Scutari hospital. The children had the opportunity to role play soldiers, nurses, cleaners, cooks and gardeners and fully use their imagination to get a feel of what the hospital would have been like.

We had such an amazing day and would like to say a massive thank you to Fiona from History Off The Page! She was so impressed by the children and was complimenting them throughout the day, making Miss Gray incredibly proud!
