Girls Football Team Crowned Champions!

Our girls football team clinched the league with victory over their closest rivals yesterday following an outstanding match with plenty of late drama. Despite having the greater share of possession during a tense first half with Aboyne Lodge, our visitors took the lead with a powerful shot from inside the area. Skyswood started the game one point above Aboyne Lodge, knowing that a draw would secure the title. The Aboyne defence continued to frustrate Skyswood with their tenacious defending, but with five or six minutes to go Philippa, our team captain, scored a wonderful goal direct from a free kick. Catherine, who enjoyed another outstanding game, then secured the victory with a late winner that came about through pure determination and a clinical finish. The whole team were superb throughout. Shriya enjoyed another confident game as our goalkeeper, showing excellent distribution from her kicking. Isobel showed great versatility, playing in several positions throughout the course of the game and almost added a third goal with a powerful shot right at the end. Sophie was extremely alert and showed some great touches up front, Iris and Matilda both displayed great skills on the wing, Betsy was amazing at closing the ball down (especially from the Aboyne Lodge goal kicks), Lila was quick, alert and composed in defence, and Philippa led by example as a captain. Well done to all of the girls, it's been a fantastic season so far and they should all be incredibly proud of their efforts!
