Skyswood win District Sports Athletics Championship
Our Skyswood athletics team can be truly proud of themselves after winning the District Sports Athletics Championship at Westminster Lodge. The girls' team also won the Girls' Trophy in an exciting finish where only two points separated the top three teams.
The track team were given a great boost by our field athletics squad, who performed brilliantly on Tuesday morning and, for the first time ever, secured top six places in all six field events. Iris came second in the girls' long jump and fourth in the girls' high jump, with Ana finishing second in the girls' throw. For our boys' team, Arthur came second in the throw, with James close behind in third. Both Kingsley and William made the top six in high jump, with Kingsley finishing third and William fifth. Christian also finished fifth in a highly competitive boys' long jump final.
Both of our relay teams won their heats on Tuesday and qualified for the Thursday finals.
On the track, we had a magnificent double in the 600 metres. Defying both the heat and their opponents, Iris and Calum followed up this season's exceptional achievements in cross-country by both winning their 600 metres races. Thea, Anna, Max K and Shriya all secured vital points by reaching the sprint finals and, in the Year 6 relays, our girls' team were runners-up and our boys came third in an extremely close race. the changeovers were fantastic and our boys did particularly well as another runner cut across Christian by running in the wrong lane. Christian and the team held their nerve and almost won despite this!
Well done to all of the team, it's the first time that we've won the District Sports in our recent history and everybody in the track and field team performed superbly.
