Our Aims, Ethos & Values

Opening Doors for Life-Long Learning.

Our Core Values

Kindness, Curiosity, Resilience, Respect

To provide a happy, caring and challenging environment where children recognise and achieve their full potential, developing a love for learning in an ever-changing world.

Skyswood Primary School and Nursery are committed to providing a high-quality education for all of our children through a rich, creative and inclusive curriculum. We have high expectations of all pupils and strive to build a reassuring atmosphere of trust and confidence where all children are valued equally.
When designing and refining our curriculum at Skyswood Primary and Nursery School, all stakeholders were consulted and it was clear that the social and emotional aspects of education held a high profile within the school. Our core values of kindness, curiosity, resilience and respect shone through. Our growth mindsets philosophy consolidates our drive for our children to build their resilience as learners and develop a life-long love of learning.

Kindness and respect are fully reflected in the positive attitudes and behaviours of our children towards one another. Our older children take great pride in supporting our younger ones; through their role as Play Leaders, through opportunities within the curriculum, such as buddy reading, and through their day-to-day interactions. Over the past couple of years some of our Year 6 pupils have even run extra-curricular activities for younger children, including a Dance Club for infants that is adult supervised but entirely run by an enthusiastic group of Year 6 pupils.

Our curriculum is carefully planned to identify the key learning goals within each unit of study, with opportunities to consolidate and progressively build upon prior learning as the children move up through the school.

Subject leaders are passionate about their subjects and each curriculum area is enriched through exciting opportunities for our children to work collaboratively, a considered programme of educational visits and visitors, and thoughtful and relevant links between different subject areas. Our vision for children to develop a love for learning informs our curriculum and a carefully planned programme of home-learning, with a firm focus on supporting children with reading across the early years and Key Stage 1, which forms a strong framework for the Learning Log programme across Key Stage 2. Children are set purposeful home-learning activities that enrich the school curriculum and prepare them well for their transition to secondary school at the end of Key Stage 2.

School values help our pupils to understand right from wrong as well as shaping the mindsets and behaviours of future adults. To find out more about our school values please click here
